Terms of use

The service
Tonnr shows surf conditions: buoy measurements, forecasts, tides and a catalogue of surf breaks. It lets you save spots and be alerted when the sea matches. It is free, and published by Téo Goulois. These terms apply to anyone who uses it, and creating an account means you accept them. The privacy policy says what is kept about you.
The figures are a guide
Measurements, forecasts and tides come from other networks and models. They can be wrong, late or missing, and an alert can arrive late or not at all. Look at the sea yourself before you go in. Tonnr decides nothing for you, and Téo Goulois is not liable for what you decide from it, within the limits the law allows.
Each source keeps its own terms: Sources
Your account
An account is one person's. Give an address that is yours, and keep your password to yourself. Your username is read by others: choose one that passes for no one else and offends no one. An operator may take a username away, and you then choose another.
Fair use
Do not use Tonnr to break the law, to harass anyone, or to write what you know is false about a place. Do not try to read what is not yours, to get round a limit, or to load the service so that others cannot use it. A program reads the API with a key, within that key's limits.
An operator may suspend an account that breaks these terms: it can no longer sign in. Write to hello@tonnr.app if you think that was a mistake.
Your spots are private
A spot you add is seen by you alone: its name, its point, what you say of it and its alerts. Nobody else reads it, unless you share a list that holds it, and it is in no public list.
What you ask to make public
You may ask that a spot be made public. A moderator checks that it is known to all, and may refuse. If it is accepted, its name, its point and its guide join the catalogue of Tonnr under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0: anyone may reuse them, provided they name the source and share what they make of them under the same terms. Your account is not named there.
By sending the request, you confirm that you may publish this information, and you agree to that licence. A spot that was made public stays public when your account is deleted.
What you write in a guide
What you write of a public spot is read by everyone, under your username, once a moderator or the people who keep the spot confirmed it. A list of words joins the catalogue of Tonnr under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0, and a text under the Database Contents License (DbCL) 1.0.
By sending, you confirm that you wrote it yourself, from what you know of the place, and you accept these licences. What you wrote stays when your account is deleted, and then names nobody.

What you share by a link
A list you share by a link is read by whoever has the link, your private spots in it too, and they may copy what they read. You may give it a password, give it a new link, and stop sharing at any time.
A free service, as it is
Tonnr is free and shows no advertising. It comes as it is: it may stop working for a while, change or close, and an operator may close the map to visitors without an account.
You may stop using it at any time, and have your account deleted: the privacy policy says how.
Changes and law
When these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes too. Using Tonnr after a change means you accept the new terms.
These terms are governed by French law. If something goes wrong, write to hello@tonnr.app first.
